STIMULATION OF MACROMOLECULAR PROCESSES IN BSC CELLS DUE TO MEDIUM REPLENISHMENT

Heteroploid BSC1 cells form monolayers in vitro and cease to grow within three to four days. The addition of fresh medium triggers off a chain of events which leads to DNA synthesis and cell duplication. The synthesis of proteins and RNA is stimulated, reaching a maximal rate 30 min after medium replenishment. The rate of protein synthesis again increases at 120 min. Inhibition of RNA synthesis affects protein synthesis, and prevention of protein formation inhibits both RNA and DNA synthesis. © 1968.
