A STUDY ON CHAOTIC MIXING IN 2D CAVITY FLOWS (EFFECTS OF REYNOLDS-NUMBER AND AMPLITUDE OF LID VELOCITY)

Chaotic mixing in two-dimensional square cavity flows with a periodic lid velocity was numerically simulated. To quantify the mixing in the cavity, the pseudo-Lyapunov exponent lambda was measured. After selecting Reynolds number (Re) and amplitude of the lid velocity (A) as parameters which govern the flow field and mixing conditions, relationships between these parameters and lambda were investigated. The obtained results showed that neither Re nor A affects the value of period T which gives the maximum lambda.
