The temperature dependence/phase behavior of the rigid main-chain copolyester (1:1) of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid has been monitored using very high temperature deuterium NMR (H-2 NMR). The results of this investigation indicate that H-2 NMR is able to provide, for the first time, conclusive evidence of the ability of these systems to efficiently orient in the presence of an external magnetic field.
