摘要
Two experiments were conducted in northeast Mexico to assess 'buck effect' prior to mating on reproductive performance of crossbred goats (Criollo x dairy breeds) in poor or good body condition. In Expt. 1, 100 lactating goats in poor body condition were randomly divided into two groups. One of the groups was exposed overnight during 12 d prior to mating to eight bucks in good body condition impeded to copulate. Breeding began immediately after the teasing period (mid June) and it lasted for 12 d. Expt. 2 was basically a repetition of Expt. 1, with the difference that does were in good body condition and the breeding period lasted 18 d. In addition, there was an interval of 15 d between the end of the teasing period and the beginning of the breeding period. No beneficial effect of bucks stimulation prior to the breeding period was found in terms of kidding rate (32 and 46% for goats in poor body condition stimulated and not stimulated; and 84 and 82% for goats in good body condition with or without buck stimulation, respectively) or litter size ( 1.40 and 1.32 for goats in good body condition stimulated or not stimulated; P > 0.05). These results show that buck stimulation prior to breeding appeared to have no effect on kidding rate and litter size in cycling crossbred goats on range conditions.
