摘要：

The article presents the methodological basis of the contrastive study of motivational bases of English, French and Ukrainian ichthyonyms that will be realized in four phases and will be based on a combination of contrastive and comparative historical methods, as well as cognitive onomasiological and linguoculturological analysis. The method of continuous sampling and quantitative analysis will be used as auxiliary methods. The notion of the motivational characteristic, which explains the internal form of the word verbally, would serve as tertium comparationis (the basis of contrastive analysis). The research will be based on certain methodological principles: the systematic, semantic, functional, onomasiological and semasiological.
