Recovery of Adult Children of Alcoholics and Spirituality

Adult children of alcoholics carry a number of consequences caused by their addicted parents, such as internalized fear of abandonment, the need to control others, neglect of their own needs and tending to the issues of others. In the article, adult children of alcoholics, their characteristics and features of their nuclear families are presented. The article also describes the role of spirituality in the recovery of adult children of alcoholics from dysfunctional patterns of repressing emotions and defensive behavior toward a more appropriate form of relation to self and interaction with others.
