HYDROSILANE ADDITION OF PERFLUOROPHENYLSILANES TO SOME UNSATURATED SYSTEMS

The addition of (pentafluorophenyl)dimethylsilane (I), bis(pentafluorophenyl)methylsilane (II) and tris(pentafluorophenyl)silane (III) to phenylacetylene catalyzed by hexachloroplatinic acid gave mixtures of α- and β-substituted styrenes in each case; the proportion of the α-isomer increased from (I)-(III). Compound (I) underwent addition to the olefinic and carbonyl bonds of some representative compounds; addition did not occur under the conditions used with cyclohexene, furan, tetrakis(trimethylsilyl)allene nor with the azomethine, nitrile or azo linkages. The silane (I) added to benzalacetophenone to give the 1,4-adduct. © 1969.
