Strategies for the Development of Social Networks for Supporting the Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Rights

The participation of young people in the promotion of sexual and reproductive rights is a poorly developed field in the social and institutional spheres in Colombia. This article presents the results of a participatory process which involved young people, families, communities and institutions around the adolescent pregnancy problem. Through the implementation of participatory methodologies and social demonstrations, we highlight the transformation of autocratic and dependent practices towards more democratic practices and autonomy-related ones. In the same way we emphasize the inter-generational structure of the network, like a strategic scenario for the transformation of the power relationship traditionally unbalanced between adult and young people, promoting and making easier the participation of young people in the construction of local development and the practice of citizenship by young people.
