As the need for diagnostics increases, so do the uses for pulsed dye lasers - principally in diagnostics related to the biomedical field, the control of industrial processes, and research applications. In diagnostics, the main techniques of interest are fluorescence and phosphorescence, because these provide an ideal means of making the necessary quantitative measurements. The applications for pulsed dye lasers will continue to grow, particularly in the medical, industrial and research areas, as they are stimulated by other advances in nonlinear crystals and microfluorescence.
