摘要
The quenching effects of a set of carboxylic acid anions on the fluorescence of some phenol derivatives are analyzed. It is found that the quenching rate constants, obtained from the corresponding SternVolmer plots, satisfy the Brønsted general-base catalysis law. Extrapolation of the Brønsted plots to water as base yields values for the pKa's of the various phenols in their lowest excited singlet state. The results are discussed and compared to pKa* values previously obtained from an alternative thermodynamic" procedure."
