摘要
The capillary suction time (CST) method for measuring the filterability of suspensions is reviewed. A model is given in which the CST is shown to be related to the fluid loss, or desorptivity, of the suspension. Experimental radial CST measurements are described for four colloidal suspensions, where the diameter of the filtrand cell was varied. The results suggest that flocculated suspensions filter at the surface of the CST filter paper, but some invasion of the paper appears to occur for the non-flocculated suspensions. The CST data for flocculated suspensions gives a desorptivity in clime agreement with that obtained from conventional filtration, using a differential pressure equal to the capillary suction pressure. The agreement is less good for the non-flocculated suspensions, and possible reasons are suggested.
