ACTION OF GAMMA-RADIATION ON LIGHT-TRANSMITTING FIBER-BUNDLES OF HIGH-PURITY SILICATE GLASS

摘要
The effect of gamma radiation on the variation of the spectral properties of fiber-optic bundles fabricated from very high purity borosilicate glasses is investigated. It is shown that, for a CeO2 concentration of the order of (0.8-1.2) mass %, the formation of color centers in the bundles is suppressed to a significant degree up to dosages of 10(5) rad. In this situation the increase in optical losses in the near-IR region of the spectrum is insignificant.
