摘要
Progress and rationality which are the main goals of the western civilisation were proposed in order to diminish the anguish of people against nature. That is the basis of the enlightenment mentality which first appears in ancient myths. This reason based mentality is criticized by Adomo and Horkheimer as it may cause chaos and work against humanity. The aim of this study is to examine Alfred Doblin's novel "Mountains Seas and Giants" in the light of Adomo and Horkheimer's "Dialectic of Enlightenment" theory. In this novel, it is emphasized that the humanity will inevitably regress due to people's arrogance and desire to progress.
