THE ACTIVITY AND LOCALIZATION OF SOME HYDROLYTIC ENZYMES DURING EARLY EMBRYOGENESIS OF LILIUM-REGALE AFTER POLLINATION WITH GAMMA-IRRADIATED POLLEN

Changes in the activity and localization of nonspecific esterase, acid phosphatase, alpha-galactosidase and beta-glucosidase in L. regale pistils after pollination with gamma-irradiated pollen were studied. In the embryo sac and in the ovule reduction of AS-esterase and alpha-galactosidase and, at the same time, enhancement of alpha-esterase, acid phosphatase and beta-glucosidase activities were observed. The changes in hydrolytic enzyme activities are discussed as manifestations of lethal factors resulting from structural disturbances of DNA in the generative nucleus and in sperms caused by irradiation.
