We apply two microscopic methods in order to calculate the third-order parameters in the anharmonic description of Cd isotopes. With the first one (based on the quasi-boson expansion) we fail to reproduce the empirical variation of the static quadrupole moment with A. We present an alternative method, which takes into account renormalization effects, but it is not able to calculate the velocity dependent terms in the anharmonic Hamiltonian. The results of the second calculation are in better agreement with the empirical values than those obtained with the previous method. © 1969.
