The article discusses performance of the tasks resulting from Operational Programme "Infrastructure and Environment" in the gas sector, in the EU financial framework for the years 2014-2020. The goal of the programme is, among other things, to ensure increased energy security through realization of selected investment projects targeted at two key sectors: gas industry and electrical power engineering. Description of the programme was presented, including its substantive priorities. Priority VII, which focuses on the development of smart systems of energy storage, transmission and distribution, was discussed in detail. The criteria for selection of projects planned in the gas sector were presented. The investment projects approved for realization were listed. In the gas industry, the main beneficiaries of the EU financial framework no. 2 are the following companies: OGP Gaz-System S.A., Polska Spolka Gazownictwa Sp. z o.o., Polskie LNG Sp. z o.o., DUON Dystrybucja S.A., EWE Energia Sp. z o.o. and SIME Polska Sp. z o.o. Currently, works are continuing on the definition of demand for further projects resulting from the power engineering development strategy in the years 2021-2027 in order to win more structural funds. The Polish gas sector is constantly developing and undergoing transformation but the funds for projects and expansion in this sector are still essential.
