The Philosophy of Kant in the Arguments among the Scholars concerning the Problem of the Right Method of the University Education within the Lands of the First Republic of Poland at the Beginning of 19th Century

I would like to draw attention to the argument which accompanied the attempts to preserve the cultural identity of Poles when the structures of the First Republic of Poland ceased to exist. It is within this period when the earliest Polish reception of Kant's philosophy took place which caused it was entangled in political context. The authors of educational reforms within the lands of the former Republic of Poland had to choose the right form of the education of youth. The most influential reformers firmly opposed introducing Kant's philosophy in university education. The paper sketches the most important aspects of the conflict between Polish followers of Kant (Jozef Kalasanty Szaniawski, Franciszek Wigura) and the opponents of German philosophy (Jan Sniadecki, Hugo Kollataj, Stanislaw Staszic).
