SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF BIS[BETA-CARBOALKOXYETHYL]TIN(IV) SCHIFF-BASE COMPLEXES

Several comPlexes of the type R2SnL {where R = -CH2CH2CO2CH3, -CH2CH2CO2C2H5 or -CH2CH2CO2C4H9 ; and L = S-methyl- beta -N-(2-hydroxyphenyl)methylenedithiocarbazate [H2SMSaD], S-methyl- beta- N-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methylenedithiocarbazate [H2SMVD], or S-methyl- beta -N-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methylenedithiocarbazate [H2SMND]) have been sythesized for the first time and characterized by their elemental analyzes, molecular weight determination, IR, H-1, C-13 and Sn-119 nmr spectra. The values of 1J (Sn-119, C-13) were used for the calculation of C-Sn-C angles (theta) which were found to be 140-143-degrees. The spectral data are consistent with an octahedral geometry around tin(IV) in which the Schiff bass acts as a dianionic tridentate ligand and the ester groupings are present as monodentate as well as bidentate moieties.
