Clear aligners in pediatric age in a case of gingival recession due to malocclusion

OBJECTIVES The objective of the present case report is to show an original orthodontic treatment with clear aligners in an 8 years old subject to obtain a dental repositionment and spontaneous increase of a gingival recession. MATERIALS AND METHODS A male 8 years old patient shows an important anterior crossbite of the dental elements 21 and 31 with associated gingival recession of 31. The orthodontic treatment was conducted using clear aligners (Invisalign (R) - Align Technology, San Jose, CA, USA) changed every 5 days, kept in place for 2 months and wearied 21 hours/day, removed only for meals. RESULTS After the correction of crossbite (2 months and 10 days of treatment, 14 aligners), after the crossbite correction, the patient's aesthetic and periodontal condition improved very fast and evidently. CONCLUSIONS The minimally invasive orthodontic treatment with clear aligners can lead to satisfactory clinical results with considerable advantages compared with the traditional techniques, for paediatric patients with gingival retraction.
