摘要
Modern-day power systems are liable to widespread failures. There is a continuous growth in power demand while there is a very narrow scope for expansion of a transmission network causing overloading in some of the transmission lines. Contingency management of a power system is an essential task as it ensures a stable and reliable operation in situation of outages in transmission lines and generator units. In this paper, a risk-based placement strategy for interline power flow converter (IPFC) has been proposed. First, the lines have been ranked using Composite Severity Index, which is a combination of line utilization factor and Fast Voltage Stability Index. A probability-based strategy has been adopted for the placement of IPFC. From the list of the severe lines obtained, IPFC is placed on the line which has the maximum likelihood of severity during the occurrence of different outages. To verify the proposed methodology, it has been tested and implemented on an IEEE 57-bus system. The load on the node with the highest load is further increased gradually up to the critical value and the results have been presented and analysed. Also, an actual system condition has been taken into consideration wherein the load changes at regular intervals and the usefulness of IPFC in contingency management has been proven.
