摘要
This paper integrates the legal, biological, and industrial implications of wetlands protection. The development and current status of United States law governing operations in forested wetlands are reviewed, including the regulations promulgated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that determine whether permits are needed. The definitions and delineation schemes used in the Southeast for determining wetlands are summarized. Emphasis is placed on evaluation of ecological parameters presently used in determining wetlands. Since certain new criteria used in wetlands delineations have not been widely tested, the questions that need to be explored for further interpretations of jurisdiction over wetlands will be addressed. Implications for forest management practices are discussed. © 1990.
