摘要
In this paper the author pursues his research on the quantitative measures of intangible assets, such as fear, expectations, hope, longing. The method he uses is based on the Bayes's theorem of subjective probability. The material is a recorded and transcribed fragment from a psychoanalytical session with a young woman, Ippolita, affected by a dramatic syndrome of vertigo and falls syncope, or faint, or epileptic seizure - occurring even once or twice a day, and lasting only few seconds, from which she emerges as if nothing had happened. The text's analysis is about two hypotheses put forward by Ippolita in order to explain her falls. The first one, that she names 'the traffic jam' meaning that she falls when her brain is blocked by too many inputs, is updated by the second one, named 'a viper in her bosom', meaning that she has created the monster of her falls in order to be left in peace, to be allowed to do nothing at all. The results of mathematical calculus, expressed with numbers and geometrical curves, show that, from a certain moment onward in her experience, Ippolita's expectation to be left in peace is as high in presence of terrorist attacks of falls, as it is without the turn to violent actions. From the clinical perspective of the therapist, the mathematical results strongly suggest a warning against every type of preventive war aiming at a complete recovery from the falls but risking a spiralling recursive sequence of war and terrorism. On the contrary, the logical consequence for the therapist is to keep the world around Ippolita in peace up to the time she will persuade herself that it is not the case to cling to atomic terror in order to gain a peace that is already there.
