MICROSURGERY OF GLAUCOMA - INDICATIONS AND CHOICE OF TECHNIQUES

The microsurgical system of glaucoma therapy was devised for use in four specific types of ocular hypertension: (1) angle retention (iris block or obstruction), (2) trabecular retention, (3) intrascleral retention, and (4) hypersecretional glaucoma. Each one of these types requires a special operation or, if a case presents a combination of types, a combination of procedures. Over a six-year period, this system of microsurgery for glaucoma has been successful in nearly 1,500 cases. Even in its present stage of development, microsurgery of glaucoma affords both efficacy and safety and offers some substantial advantages over conventional glaucoma surgery, especially the fistulizing operations. © 1969.
