摘要
Physical vapour deposition of wear-resistant hard coatings on tool substrates usually requires substrate temperatures between 400 and 500-degrees-C. To enhance the adhesion of the coating, preheating of the substrates is normally used. Using an electron beam, a localized heat treatment of the sample can be applied whereby the heating rate and final temperature can be chosen over a wide range. Besides thermal effects, the growth and stoichiometry of the coatings can be influenced by alternating sequences of heating and deposition.
