OPTICAL-TRANSMISSION OF ASYMMETRIC COUPLED QUANTUM-WELLS UNDER CROSSED ELECTRIC AND MAGNETIC-FIELDS

摘要
Low-temperature optical-transmission measurements in asymmetric GaAs coupled quantum wells under crossed electric and magnetic fields suggest orbit-center-dependent energy subbands. The applied electric field brings the conduction subbands into resonance, monitored by comparing the relative intensity of spatially direct and indirect excitonic peaks. Under an applied magnetic field parallel to the plane of the quantum-well layers, the energy separation between the conduction subbands is either reduced or increased depending on the location of the orbit center. This is confirmed by observed shifts in the applied electric field that are required to bring the conduction electron-energy levels to resonance.
