摘要
The present study aims to provide an update on therapy for acute diarrhea in the breastfed infant and to evaluate the efficacy of racecadotril, a new intestinal antisecretory drug, in the treatment of this disease. A review was undertaken of the literature related to rehydration, refeeding, and racecadotril. Animal experimental studies of this drug were reviewed as well as reports on its use to treat adults and children with acute diarrhea. Results obtained demonstrate that administration of racecadotril to breast-fed infants and children is safe and well tolerated and reduces the duration and severity of diarrhea.
