844 HIV infected patients seen in our institution from January 1990 to June 1993, were tested for anti-hepatitis C virus (VHC) anti bodies. Results show a moderate prevalence : 115 (13, 6 %) are found positive. Most patients are infected through a blood contamination (94 %). Sexual transmission of VHC appears very low. Serologic markers of hepatitis B virus are seen in 100 (87 %) of cases. The risk of hepatitis pejorative evolution is confirmed. Complications frequency is relatively moderate and further studies are necessary to estimate the influence of co-infections.
