摘要：

To determine the risk for pneumothorax when doing a thoracentesis on mechanically ventilated patients, patient charts (from January 1980 through March 1990, with computer codes for thoracentesis and mechanical ventilation) were reviewed at four hospitals. A pneumothorax occurred in 2 of 32 thoracenteses (6%; 95% CI, 0% to 15%). We conclude, on the basis of available data, that the risk for pneumothorax when doing a thoracentesis on mechanically ventilated patients is similar to the risk reported for nonventilated patients.
