Relationship between activities of daily living, quality of life and mobility in older people with low vision: a comparative study

Purpose: Purpose: This study was planned to investigate the relationship between activities of daily living, quality of life and mobility among older people with low vision. Methods: Thirty low vision, 30 healthy people aged 60 and over were included in this study. Tinetti's Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment, Activities of Daily Vision Scale and Short Form-36 were used to evaluate mobility functions, activities of daily living and quality of life, respectively. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between low vision patients and normally sighted people with respect to the results of mobility functions, activities of daily living and quality of life in the favor of normally sighted people (p<0.05). There was a statistically significant correlation between mobility and activities of daily living and quality of life in older people with low vision (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our test results suggest that visual loss may affect mobility functions, activities of daily living and quality of life in older people. The decline of mobility functions has a negative effect on activities of daily living and quality of life in older people with low vision.
