EXPERIMENTAL-VERIFICATION OF THE THEORY OF CRITICAL RESISTIVITY

In recent years detailed predictions were made concerning the temperature dependence of the critical resistivity. It is shown here that experimental results obtained for a ferromagnetic metal (Fe), a ferromagnetic semi-conductor (p-type CdCr2Se4), an antiferromagnetic semiconductor (MnTe) and an antiferromagnetic metal (Dy) confirm the theoretical predictions quantitatively. The quantitative comparison of the theory and the experimental results yielded the specific heat parameters, α=α′=-0.21, A/A′=1.48 for Fe, α=α′=-0.01, A/A′=1.37 for MnTe and α=α′=-0.04, A/A′=1.44 for Dy. These results are in reasonable agreement with results from specific heat measurements and with results obtained in renormalization-group calculations.
