摘要：

This work consists of two parts: first, a quantitative study of the usage of chengyu and second, its influences on three translations of the same original text, namely The Family of Pascual Duarte by Camilo Jose Cela, first published in 1942. The translated versions in Chinese are: (1973), by (Meiyuan Liu), (1992), by (Shuying Chang) and (1994), by(Mengchao Tu),(Shangzhi Xu) and (Min Wei). Our conclusion is that the distance between translated works and target-language text and culture does not necessarily correspond to that between the translated works and their readers.
