RELIGIOUS ORIENTATION AND LOCUS OF CONTROL

Students classified as intrinsic (n = 57), extrinsic (n = 60), and indiscriminate (n = 60) on the basis of their responses to Allport's Religious Orientation Scale were compared on Paulhus' Spheres of Control (SOC) battery. The results indicated that the SOC profiles provided a more accurate assessment of control expectancies than unitary measures of perceived control. Discussion focused on profile differences among the three religious orientations and the implications for further research.
