摘要
Acute aortic syndrome is a rare condition with a high morbidity and mortality rate, in which an early diagnosis and treatment are essential in order to improve its prognosis. Within the features of this syndrome can be found, the penetrating ulcer, intramural hematoma, and with aortic dissection being one of the most common features. The typical clinical manifestation of this syndrome is the stabbing chest pain, with the possibility of more symptoms being present. It is diagnosed using diagnostic imaging techniques, such as echocardiogram (transthoracic and/or transesophageal), computerized axial tomography and magnetic resonance. It is treated as a medical emergency, which in the majority of cases might require surgical treatment. (C) 2014 Sociedad Espanola de Cirugia Torkica-Cardiovascular.
