PHOTOCONDUCTIVITY OF P-TYPE MNXHG1-X TE IN A MAGNETIC-FIELD

An investigation was made of the photoconductivity of compensated semimagnetic isovalent substitutional Mn(x)Hg(1-x)Te (0.2 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 0.25) solid solutions. The investigation was carried out at 4.2 K in magnetic fields 6 T using circulatory polarized light in the Faraday geometry. The carrier density at 77 K was within the range 3 X 10(15)-2 X 10(16) cm-3. The complex structure of the photoconductivity spectra observed in a magnetic field for the sigma+ and sigma- polarizations of light was due to paramagnetic splitting of the conduction band and an acceptor level. The selection rules were used to identify the following transitions: in the sigma- polarization, b(h)(-1) --> b(c)(0), a(h)(-1) --> a(c)(0); in the sigma+ polarization, b(h)(1) --> b(c)(0), a(h)(1) --> a(c)(0); impurity transition \ -3/2] --> b(c)(0)\. The proposed identification of the structure of the photoconductivity spectra in a magnetic field was used to calculate the parameters of the energy spectrum and of the exchange interaction.
