SERIES SOLUTION FOR ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE-PROPAGATION IN RADIALLY AND AXIALLY NONUNIFORM MEDIA - GEOMETRICAL-OPTICS APPROXIMATION

摘要
A series solution is given for electromagnetic wave propagation in inhomogeneous media with specified dielectric constant, with recourse to the Wenzel-Kramers-Brillouin approximation. An explicit expression is obtained for the irradiance distribution in the paraxial region, when the incident wave front is plane gaussian. The studies are applicable to propagation of laser beams in self-focusing fibers and rods.
