IMPORTANCE AND DETERMINATION OF CHEMICAL-SPECIES IN SOLID SAMPLES

Sequential leaching experiments were performed for the determination of mobility of metal content in different environmental media. Sediment samples were collected from Lake Balaton, near Keszthely. Fly ash was sampled at municipal waste incinerators and coal-fired power plants. Morphological investigations and single-particle analysis were carried out by the SEM/EDAX method. Zinc, V, As, Pb, and Cd have been studied and of the toxic elements Cd and V have been found in exchangeable forms in some samples. Easily available fractions of toxic metals may cause pollution in the receiving waters, soils, or plants. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc.
