Digital document and digital preservation: some conceptual considerations

Presents the digital document's historical development and its relationship with other document types. Discusses the digital document's relevant role and characteristics to the understanding of digital preservation. It considers both the digital document that is born this way, as well as those produced from scanning processes of other documents in traditional media such as plain or photo paper. The article includes the conceptual differences between electronic and digital documents and the relationship between traditional preservation, which focuses on documents in tangible media, and digital preservation.
