摘要
INGOTS WERE MADE FROM PURE OR COMMERCIALLY PURE ALUMINUM (99. 99 MASPAL AND 99. 8 MASSPAL) SOLIDIFICATION PROCEEDED NOTONLY WITH GROWTH OF COLUMNAR CRYSTALS BUT ALSO WITH PRODUCTION OF FREE CRYSTALS WHICH BECAME COLUMNAR FREE CRYSTALS OR ENCLOSED FREE CRYSTALS. THE COLUMNAR TO EQUIAXED TRANSITION HAD A TRANSITIONAL ZONE WHICH BEGAN WITH THE PRODUCTION OF FREE CRYSTALS AND FINISHED WITH A SUFFICIENT SUPPLY TO STOP COMPETITIVE GROWTH BETWEEN FREE CRYSTALS AND COLUMNAR CRYSTALS FROM BELOW. THE MOST PROBABLE MECHANISM HETEROGENEOUS NUCLEATION IN CONSTITUTIONALLY SUPERCOOLED LIQUID.
