A NONLINEAR DYNAMICS MODEL FOR 3-DIMENSIONAL FLEXIBLE LINKAGES

摘要
This paper presents the detailed development of a nonlinear finite element model for the dynamic analysis of three-dimensional mechanisms consisting of flexible linkages. A linkage is modeled as a beam undergoing both large gross rigid body motion and elastic deformation. The finite element method is used to approximate the elastic deflection of the beam with its inertia lumped at the nodes of each element. The beam can be pretwisted with the mass center offset from the elasticity center to model certain specific structures such as turbines and helicopter blades. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate its application to the general dynamic simulation of a manipulator arm and also to evaluate the effects of the large deflections on the system's dynamic response. Both linear and nonlinear dynamic responses have been obtained for these examples in order to study the significance of these nonlinear effects.
