Lifetimes of rovibronic levels of d 3PI(u) states in H-2 and D2 have been measured by using the electron-impact-excitation and delayed-coincidence method. Observed differences between the lifetimes of d 3PI(u)e (nu, N) and d 3PI(u)f(nu, N) sublevels in H-2 were the direct result of perturbations arising from interactions between d 3PI(u)f(nu, N) and e 3SIGMA(u)+(nu', N) levels. Different lifetime variation with N of the d 3PI(u)f(nu, N) states in H-2 and D2 implied that several e 3SIGMA(u)+ levels were predissociated in H-2 but not in D2.
