THE GRAIN-SIZE AND ALLOYING INFLUENCE ON THE STRAIN-HARDENING OF POLYCRYSTALLINE ALPHA-BRASSES

Deformation behaviour dependence on grain size and alloy composition was tested in 76/24 type weakly textured alpha-brass additionally alloyed by a little content of silicon (up to 1 %). Increasing the grain size in highly alloyed brasses or the silicon content in coarse grained brasses, the dynamic recovery was found similary postponed to higher stresses in both cases. Furthermore the expansion of the stage of athermal hardening was followed by a lowering of the athermal hardening rate and the d-sigma/d-epsilon-sigma plot changed from decreasing to increasing type, in both cases, approaching the single crystal behaviour.
