This paper reports on recent advances in the production and application of structural adhesives which are now finding use in the most critical and demanding fastening jobs - such as bonding the components of reinforced phenolic auxiliary power units in some American passenger jets. New formulations are available with high heat resistance, fast cure, good green strength, and the ability to perform in automatic mixing and dispensing equipment. THere have been some advances in automatic application equipment as well, with more promised. Details are given on new types of adhesives and related markets based on acrylics, polyurethanes and epoxies.
