Cognitive impairment during the course of Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease (IPD)

Introduction: During the course of Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease, there is controversy as to the presence of cognitive symptoms with a variable importance in clinical manifestations as well as their presentation in the diverse evolutive periods. Material and methods: In the investigations performed on this issue, the percentage of persons with cognitive impairment. In our study, we illustrate the alterations produced on the cognitive sphere of a group of patients by keeping in mind those parameters that are studied under the battery of tests on neuropsychologic evaluation. Results: We found that in spite of non classifying as demented according to the battery for studies that is performed at CIREN'S Clinic for Movement Disorders, 71% of patients presented alterations in the neuropsychologic sphere. We found memory, language, attention and thought as most compromised domains. Conclusion: The symptoms increase with age, with predominance of the rigidity among motor symptoms and more advanced clinical stages of the disease. Depression was present in a 50% of our patients.
