Following the emergence of a number of international standards, ISO-8613 ODA standardises a number of facilities that allow interchange of multimedia documents structured in terms of logical and layout components. This paper discusses characteristic of a proprietary multimedia editor, how far its facilities could be represented in ODA, and how conversion between the proprietary and the ODA format has been implemented. The paper summarises the salient features of document transfer over X.400, and of an ODA serve implemented over an Autonomous Active Mail box. It finally discusses some of the salient features of the document interchange, based on these implementations.
