THERMALLY ACTIVATED DOMAIN-WALL MOTION AND COERCIVE FIELD IN MATERIALS WITH EXTREMELY NARROW DOMAIN-WALLS

By computer simulation the shapes and energies of displacement nuclei are calculated for thermally activated domain wall motion in materials with so‐called ferroelectric, i.e. monoatomic domain walls. The energies of the critical nuclei decrease with increasing magnetic field, H, however, a simple 1/H‐law is only obtained for very small values of H. Thermally activated domain wall motion only occurs at high values of H. It is shown that the intrinsic coercive field Hc corresponding to the critical field for the movement of domain walls in multi‐domain particles is appreciably lowered by thermal instabilities.
