There is Still Time, Brothers! The American Anti-War Cinema in the Context of International Relations of the Late 1950s - Middle 1960s

The article is devoted to the most significant American anti-war feature films created before and after the Cuban Missile Crisis. The main place is given to the anti-militarist film by Stanley Kramer "On the Beach", which premiere took place simultaneously in dozens of capitals of the world (including Moscow) on December 17, 1959. The film, which starred several of main "stars" of Hollywood of the 1950s, was a talented from the artistic point of view message to the countries of both opposing blocs, aimed at preventing nuclear war. Also in the article is reflected a kind of "race" between two great directors of the USA - Stanley Kubrick and Sidney Lumet. Impressed by the events of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the filmmakers simultaneously undertook the production of anti-war films with an identical storyline.
