摘要
Reconstructive surgery employing open reduction and internal fixation is not always successful for comminuted fractures of the proximal humerus. Joint replacement by anatomical or inverse shoulder endoprostheses is carried out increasingly more often. Sufficient knowledge of implants, established indications and follow-up treatment concepts for endoprosthetic replacement of the shoulder joint are of eminent importance for trauma surgeons. In Germany the permanent establishment of a endoprosthesis register is necessary in the future in order to fulfill the quality requirements for arthroplasty of the shoulder.
