Slovenia's Defense Policy in a Euro-Atlantic Reality

The core premises and components of Slovenia's defense policy since independence have been presented. Its key component is the legal framework put in place by the Slovenian authority especially the two Defense Acts 1994 and 2001, which set forth the country's national defense goals and the means to achieve them. Slovenia has realized a national defense policy in full accordance with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) conceptual and technological standards and has successfully attained transformation of army from a territorial defense force to a professional military. Slovenia's membership in NATO and the collective security-defense framework of the EU are designed not only to ensure the highest security at a lower price but also at smallest degree of risk.
