YDelayed diagnosis of a patient with cor triatriatum sinister. Case report

Cor triatriatum is a rare cardiac left congenital anomaly and is unusual for these patients exceed the age of 40 years without surgical correction. The aim of this article was to present a patient of 43 years old who underwent surgery at the age of 5 years for the closure of an atrial septal defect and where the diagnosis of Cor triatriatum was not performed. One month before admission in our Hospital the patient began with palpitations and dyspnea on moderate exertion.Transesophageal ultrasound did the diagnosis of this congenital anomaly, which were associated with mitral regurgitation and atrial fibrillation. We proceeded to resection of the fibromuscular membrane and repair two congenital clefts on the edge of the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve with good results. One year later the patient is asymptomatic and the echocardiogram shows left atrium unicameral with trivial mitral regurgitation. (C) 2015 Sociedad Espanola de Cirugia Toracica-Cardiovascular.
