摘要：

This paper highlights the relevance of the participatory research (PR) within the wider domain of social enquiry. These techniques enable the researchers to gain an internal, emic understanding of the people being researched. It contains insights gained through the employment of three PR techniques: wealth ranking, social mapping and seasonal mapping. It also presents details on the basic requirements for operationalising these techniques, the inherent advantages and potentials, and the guidelines to be followed.
